Dental Practice Valuation
Free, confidential, no obligation.
Whether you are actively planning a sale or simply want to understand your options, knowing your practice’s market value is the essential first step. The Business Acquisitions Group provides specialist dental practice valuations across the UK — backed by real buyer data and recent comparable sales.
How we value a dental practice
Dental practice valuation uses different methods depending on your revenue mix.
NHS practices
NHS practices are valued primarily on their NHS contract income, using a goodwill multiple:
NHS goodwill = annual NHS contract value × goodwill multiple (50p–90p per £1)
A practice with a £600,000 annual contract might be valued at £330,000–£540,000 in goodwill, plus tangible assets. The multiple depends on UDA delivery record, location, profitability, and lease quality.
Private practices
Private practices are valued on normalised EBITDA (operating profit adjusted for owner’s drawings):
Private goodwill = normalised EBITDA × EBITDA multiple (5.5–8×)
A private practice generating £180,000 normalised EBITDA might sell for £990,000–£1,440,000.
Mixed practices
Mixed NHS/private practices combine both methods. The NHS contract is valued separately from the private income stream and the figures are combined.
What affects your dental practice valuation?
| Factor | Higher value | Lower value |
|---|---|---|
| UDA delivery | 100%+ consistently | Under 85% |
| Associate dependency | Low (team delivers majority) | High (principal does most UDAs) |
| CQC record | Good / Outstanding | Outstanding issues |
| Location | High-demand NHS area | Over-supplied area |
| Lease | 10+ years remaining | Under 5 years |
| Equipment | Modern, well-maintained | Ageing or non-compliant |
| Revenue type | Private or profitable NHS | High-cost NHS |

Prepare for sale
We advise on the steps most likely to increase value over the next 6–12 months before you go to market.
Begin the sale process
If you are ready, we can move directly into marketing your practice confidentially to our buyer database. There is no pressure and no timeline imposed on you.
Who buys dental practices?
Understanding who your likely buyers are helps you plan for the best outcome:
Individual associates
Experienced dentists buying their first or second practice, often NHS-focused. Strong for NHS practices in the £300k–£700k range.
Corporate dental groups
Major groups (Bupa Dental Care, Portman, Rodericks, Smile Doctors and others) are active acquirers, particularly in NHS. They move methodically and pay structured prices.
PE-backed aggregators
Private equity-backed platforms are buying both NHS and private practices at scale. They pay at or above market for the right profile.
Individual private buyers
For premium private practices, high-net-worth buyers and specialist investors provide an additional pool of competitive bidders.
More buyer competition = better price for you.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a dental practice valuation take?
Our initial assessment takes 2–5 working days once we have your accounts and contract information. We can often give you a preliminary range within 24 hours.
Does getting a valuation commit me to selling?
No. A valuation is a factual assessment. Most dentists find it useful to know their value years before they are ready to sell — it helps with tax and retirement planning.
How accurate is an online or informal valuation?
Online calculators and informal estimates can be significantly off — sometimes by hundreds of thousands of pounds. The only reliable method involves reviewing actual accounts, NHS contract data, and recent comparable sales. That is what we do.
Do you value NHS practices, private practices, and mixed practices?
Yes, across all three. Our brokers have experience with GDS and PDS NHS contracts, fully private practices, implant clinics, orthodontic practices, and mixed models.
Is my valuation confidential?
Completely. We do not share valuation information with any third party without your explicit consent.
